TARZAN AND THE CITY OF GOLD & APACHE DEVIL NOW AVAILABLE!

Tarzan and the City of Gold, Apache Devil covers

These new dust-jackets use scans of the original cover paintings by J. Allen St. John and Studley O. Burroughs, producing the extremely sharp detail and rich color that my dust-jackets are known for. Click on the image to the right and see for yourself.

APACHE DEVIL was the last cover that Studley did for ERB, Inc. and CITY OF GOLD was the first that St. John did, marking a return of the illustrator to his favorite and most well-known subjects.

Studley originally had the CITY OF GOLD assignment in the fall of 1932, but his personal problems got the better of him and he ended up way behind schedule. Burroughs had C.R. Rothmund, his secretary, write to St. John as early as February of that year to ask him if he could reduce his prices for artwork, which he had quoted teh previous February, to match their "budget allowance" in the event that "the artist who is doing the work at present" would not be able to deliver on time. St. John agreed to a 37% decrease and ERB, Inc. put him off until it became clear that Studley would miss his deadline. Read more about this on The Back Flap Blog soon to comeā€¦

THE LONG MISPLACED PROLOGUE TO "BACK TO THE STONE AGE" AVAILABLE NOW.

When Argosy Weekly published the six installments of BACK TO THE STONE AGE in January and February of 1937 a prologue was included that never got into the book. I have set that text to match the typeface and layout in the hardcover and designed it to be printed off on a copier, folded and trimmed, for insertion into your copy. Look for it on the READINGS page of this site.

2017 ERB, INC. AUTHORIZED REPRODUCTIONS UPCOMING.

TARZAN AND THE LION MAN, TARZAN AND THE LEOPARD MEN, SYNTHETIC MEN OF MARS, and THE LAD AND THE LION are still being planned for this year, though, like Studley, I'm running behind.

As usual, I take the time I need to make sure that the art is up to my standards. I appreciate your continued support and encouragement. Remember that each copy of every dust-jacket is individually printed to your order, and, finally, there will only ever be as many of these Recoverings jackets as there have been orders.
